What are you doing now?
I am currently an Assistant Account Executive at W Communications, a public relations firm in Central London. I did work experience after I graduated in July, which led me to land a permanent job in September. So far, I have worked on clients such as V Festival, Spotify, Empire Cinemas, Grey Poupon, Inside Soap Awards, Beano and OpenTable. My role includes dealing with clients, managing and planning large scale promotional events and working as part of an account team to develop client proposal and implementing creative activations. My biggest achievements so far are being awarded star of the month, passing my probation period and managing a big scale event with such little experience.
What did/do you get involved with at university?
At University, I was elected in a vote cast by the students residing in my halls after a campaign I ran for the role as Social Secretary for Stenton Hall and Stenton Townhouses. The role included putting on a range of different events to accommodate the residents of Stenton. This included organising Freshers and other events such as the winter and spring formals for the students, ensuring that there was a range of different events put on to accommodate everyone. I was also involved in a reading group that took place in the library every 2 weeks - I particularly enjoyed this as it allowed me to separate reading for pleasure and my studies, which required a large amount of reading.
What did you find most valuable about your experiences at Ashmole Academy? What skills did it help you to develop?
I will always be grateful to Ashmole Academy for the experiences and life lessons I learned there. Without Ashmole, I would not have the discipline and drive that I have today. With my A-Levels especially, I had a massive amount of support from my teachers, which helped me gain a passion for each subject. The passion that I had for my subjects, helped me decide what I wanted to study at University and I will always thank my teachers for that. My teachers would always go the extra mile to ensure that I was up to date to get the grades to make it to that next stage in my life. After being at Ashmole for 7 years, I was incredibly sad to leave, especially as I knew that I would not get the same standard of teaching or support at University. I was right, however Ashmole prepared me for that change and I will always thank them for helping me get to the next step in life.
What top tips would you give to other students wishing to follow a similar career to yours?
I would say, keep on trying your hardest. Sometimes studying gets too tedious and boring - especially when you are struggling. However, use the support, do not take the high standard teaching or the resources that Ashmole provide you with for granted. This support provides you with the motivation to do well and the drive to push yourself. My career gets stressful at times but it’s these life experiences that teach you to keep pushing and trying harder and harder to reach your goal.
How did Ashmole help you reach your goals?
Ashmole always taught me to set myself goals. I still use this technique today, whether it was at university or in my job - if you set yourself a goal you will always be working to reach that goal and most importantly striving to do your best. Without the discipline and teaching from my teachers at Ashmole, I would not have been able to achieve what I have today.
Anything else you would like to tell us about yourself.
At University, I used to write essays almost every week, which began to make me find writing a bit tenuous, so my friend and I started our own lifestyle blog. Our blog enabled me to write about topics I enjoy and helped me express myself through my academic career.
Please write a quote that sums up your experience at Ashmole.
‘The high level of support and motivation I gained from my experience at Ashmole Academy is the reason I could take the next steps in my education and career’.
